The Benefits of Yoga During Pregnancy

Pregnancy asks a lot of your body. As it changes and grows, yoga can be a beautiful way to stay connected to yourself, support your changing body, and create a little space to slow down.

So, what are the benefits of yoga during pregnancy?

Support strength and flexibility

Pregnancy changes your balance, posture, and the way you move. A thoughtfully designed prenatal yoga practice can help you maintain strength and flexibility while encouraging movement that feels supportive and comfortable throughout pregnancy.

Prepare your body for birth

Prenatal yoga can incorporate hip-opening poses, pelvic floor exercises, mindful movement, and breathwork to help you become more aware of your body and prepare for the physical demands of birth.

Relieve tension and slow down

As your body changes, it's normal to experience areas of tension or discomfort. Gentle movement, stretching, breathing, and relaxation can give you an opportunity to release some of that tension and simply pause.

Connect with your baby (and yourself)

There's something special about taking time to intentionally connect with your growing baby. A prenatal yoga practice gives you space to turn inward, notice how you're feeling, and enjoy a few quiet moments with your little yogi-to-be.

Can you do yoga while pregnant?

For many people, yoga can be a wonderful form of movement during pregnancy, but every pregnancy is different. Always check with your healthcare provider before beginning or continuing a yoga practice during pregnancy, and let your instructor know you're expecting so they can help you modify your practice as needed.
