How Yoga Teacher Training Helps You Find Your Authentic Voice

My daughter is a little over two, and lately I've noticed she's been saying “sorry, Mama” after literally everything.

Bumps into a chair? “Sorry.” Drops her toy? “Sorry, Mama.” Sometimes she'll even purposely run into something just so she can say “sorry,” which is actually kind of funny and cute.

But it got me thinking about how early we're conditioned (especially as women) to say sorry… for existing, for taking up space, for making a mistake. These are all things we don't actually need to apologize for.

It also made me think about something I learned during my own yoga teacher training: the way we speak matters.

Yes, you learn how to cue a yoga class. But one of the most powerful things my teacher, Megan, taught me was how to cue with intention, how to speak clearly and confidently and how to stop apologizing at the beginning of every sentence if you stumble your words.

That lesson followed me far beyond the yoga studio!

Finding your authentic voice

At Nirvana Yoga, finding your authentic teaching voice is a big part of our yoga teacher training. You have plenty of time to practice teach, receive feedback, try things that feel uncomfortable, and slowly figure out how you want to communicate and share yoga.

While you may find inspiration from other yoga teachers, we want you to find your voice.

You come into YTT thinking you're going to learn how to teach yoga, and you do, but you might also leave with a better understanding of how you want to show up in other aspects of your life! I think that’s one of the unexpected things teacher training offers.

Ready to go deeper?

Our Power Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Training in Granger, Indiana, is designed to help you deepen your practice, learn how to teach, and find your authentic voice along the way.

If you’ve been feeling that little pull toward YTT, maybe it’s worth listening to. I’d love to chat with you about it.
