Signs You Might Be Ready for Yoga Teacher Training

Maybe you've been practicing yoga for a while and lately you've started wondering: Could I actually do yoga teacher training?

Maybe you want to teach. Maybe you don't. Maybe you just know there's something about yoga that you want to understand on a deeper level.

The good news? You don't have to be an "advanced" yogi to be ready for yoga teacher training. You don't need a perfect handstand, years of experience, or every Sanskrit pose name memorized. What matters more is your passion for the practice and your willingness to learn.

So, how do you know if you're ready? Here are five signs I’ve noticed:

1. You’re ready to go deeper into your practice

You already know you enjoy yoga, but you're starting to get curious about the why behind it.

You’ve started to be more intentional with your breath or you’re curious how philosophy, meditation, and mindfulness fit into what we're doing on the mat.

That's exactly the kind of curiosity teacher training is designed to explore! Yoga teacher training goes far beyond learning poses. At Nirvana, our curriculum explores asana, pranayama, meditation, experiential anatomy, yoga philosophy and ethics, teaching methodology, sequencing, cueing, and hands-on assisting, and most importantly, develop a deeper understanding of your own practice.

2. You're curious about teaching, even if you're not sure you want to.

You picture yourself teaching a class someday, or maybe the idea of standing in front of a room makes you nervous. Either one is okay!

Yoga teacher training isn't only for people who already know they want to teach. Actually, a lot students enroll simply to deepen their own practice and understanding of yoga.

3. You want to find your authentic voice.

A skilled teacher isn't just someone who can demonstrate a pose, they're someone who can connect and support the students in the room, and communicate in a way that feels authentic to them.

Our teacher training gives you lots of opportunities to practice teach, receive feedback, build confidence, and discover how you want to share yoga.

At Nirvana, finding your authentic teaching voice is a core part of our curriculum!

4. You learn best by doing.

If you learn best through conversation, hands-on experience, practicing with others, and receiving real-time feedback, an in-person yoga teacher training is a great fit!

Nirvana's training is intentionally small and hands-on, with a maximum of 10 trainees. You'll practice teach, receive one-on-one feedback, and learn alongside a group of people who are all learning alongside you.

5. You're willing to be a student.

You don't need to walk into teacher training knowing everything. In fact, you shouldn't, that’s the whole point of it!

You simply need to be curious, open to feedback, willing to study, and keep showing up for yourself… even when something feels unfamiliar or challenging.

You don't have to feel completely ready, you just have to be ready to learn.
